Wing Shooting

Rivers South Safaris has a good variety of duck hunting and wing shooting available. New Zealand’s main duck season is from the first Saturday in May till the last weekend in July. During this time Mallard, Grey Duck, Australian Shoveler, Paradise Shelduck, Pukekos, Black Swan and Canadian Goose can be hunted.

New Zealand has very liberal daily wingshooting bag limits. Although these are very generous, achieving full limits can be difficult.

• Grey Ducks (5)
• New Zealand Shoveler  (2)
• Paradise Shelduck (15)
• Black Swans (5)
• Pukeko's (10)
• Canada Geese (no limit)
• Merriam Turkey (no limit)

After the main New Zealand duck hunting season, Paradise shelduck can be hunted in our South Islands area until the last weekend in September. Canada geese can be hunted after the main duck season 24\7.

Rivers South Safaris also offers hunting for Merriam’s Turkey and has access to properties with huge trophy toms. There is no season on Merriam’s Turkey in New Zealand so therefore can be hunted all year round.
